The EX60 is expected to serve as the electric equivalent of the XC60, offering a mid-size SUV option for buyers moving to electric power while the XC60 continues alongside it. Built as a fully electric model from the outset, it is designed to offer long-distance usability while retaining the practicality and appeal that have made the XC60 one of Volvo’s most popular vehicles.

Volvo claims the EX60 can deliver up to 503 miles of range on a single charge, placing it at the forefront of electric vehicles currently available in the UK. This figure slightly exceeds the range BMW has stated for the upcoming iX3, due in 2026, making the EX60 a key rival in the EV market.

Although Volvo has yet to officially confirm battery specifications, the EX60 is expected to feature an all-wheel-drive system. If these figures are confirmed, the EX60 would also outperform key competitors such as the electric Mercedes-Benz GLC, which is expected to offer a range of up to 469 miles.

The EX60 is already seen as the electric version of a very popular Volvo model, and with such a long range it is likely to be a popular choice for many road users once it reaches UK roads. Not only does the range allow travel from London to Scotland on a single charge, but Volvo’s strong reputation for durability and safety will also appeal to buyers.

The full reveal is scheduled for January 21st, but Volvo has already given a glimpse of what to expect. One of the main talking points is the impressive range the EX60 is expected to deliver on a single charge, which could prove to be a game-changer for electric vehicles.

There is still much more to be announced on the 21st. Volvo has also confirmed that the EX60 will be capable of charging at speeds of up to 400 kW, allowing up to 211 miles of range to be added in just 10 minutes when connected to a suitably powerful fast charger.

The new model appears to feature a lower bonnet line and a more aerodynamic design than the combustion-engine XC60. In terms of dimensions, the EX60 is expected to be similar in size to the XC60 we already know.

Volvo has released a teaser image of the front of the vehicle, showing slim headlights that feature the brand’s signature “Thor’s Hammer” lighting graphic. Overall, the design looks closely related to the current XC60, maintaining a strong visual connection between the electric and combustion models.

Volvo has also revealed images of the rear lights, offering an early look at the tailgate design and further insight into the EX60’s styling.

The new technology base that the EX60 will use is Volvo's advanced, highly scalable SPA3 platform This new architecture will allow Volvo to add both smaller and larger cars to its line-up and can accommodate a wide range of battery sizes.

The EX60 will become one of several electric models in Volvo’s growing lineup, joining the EX30, EC40, EX40, ES90, and EX90.

It will not be long until we learn more about the EX60, with the full reveal taking place on January 21st. Pricing and detailed specifications have yet to be announced and are expected to follow shortly after the official unveiling.
